Antonio Gaudi (1984) DVD $ 19.99 Directors: Hiroshi Teshigahara Format: Color, DVD-Video, NTSC  Language: Japanese. Region: All Regions . Run Time: 72 minutes. The great innovator of the Spanish art nouveau movement, architect and sculptor Antonio Gaudi left an indelible mark on artists Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali -- and on the city of Barcelona, where the bulk of Gaudi's distinctive work still stands. Using minimal narration in this astonishing documentary, Japanese director Hiroshi Teshigahara guides viewers through the achievements of the playful, Gothic surrealist.Creator of one of the most bizarre and organic styles in the history of architecture, Antonio Gaudi Cornet, Spain's national treasure, was blessed with not only the vision, but the patronage that allowed him to build his elaborate and surreal designs. With Antonio Gaudi, Japanese director Hiroshi Teshigahara (Woman in the Dunes) gives a tour of the makings of Gaudi's world. Almost entirely without narration, Teshigahara guides us instead with an eerie score by Toru Takemitsu and a few subtitles. The film is more a poem than a documentary, but don't expect an approach similar to Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi. Instead we are given a quiet soundtrack that mixes Takemitsu's sparse score with the natural sounds surrounding Gaudi's structures, and a stationary camera presents the buildings as if they have sprouted: supports seem to magically erupt from the ground like roots, and our eyes are led through the textures and patterns of Gaudi's elaborate mosaic stone and brick designs. Visually revealing and comprehensive, Teshigahara leaves us with only one thing to do--to view Gaudi's amazing world with our own eyes

Begotten (1991) DVD $ 19.99 Actors: Brian Salzberg, Donna Dempsey, Stephen Charles Barry, Adolfo Vargas, James Gandia. Format: Black & White, DVD-Video, NTSC. BEGOTTEN is the creation myth brought to life, the story of no less than the violent death of God and the (re)birth of nature on a barren earth. Astounding and baffling critics and audiences alike, BEGOTTEN was named one of the Ten Best Pictures of 1991 by Time Magazine. Time's Richard Corliss wrote: "Nobody will get through BEGOTTEN without being marked... BEGOTTEN is a spectacular one-of-a-kind (you wouldn't want there to be two), filmed in speckled chiaroscuro so that each image is a seductive mystery, a Rorschach test for the adventurous eye." In production notes for the film, director Merhige commented, "Each shot in the film went through hours of preparation to achieve the look you will experience when viewing... the etheral "pulse" that hypnotically permeates the film. It took over ten hours to re-photograph less than one minute of selected takes.

Barfly - VHS, Mickey Rourke, F. Dunaway  $ 24.99 Henry and Wanda aren't exactly husband and wife. They're wedded to their bar stools. But they do like being with each other - and the noiresque comedy Barfly captures their giddy, gin-soaked attempts to make a go of life on the skids.Despite Bukowski's condemnation of Mickey Rourke's portrayal of him/Chinaski in the film (claiming Rourke was too cocky with the role, and didn't stick to the character of Chinaski as Bukowski intended) states Bukowski in the documentary "Bukowski: Born Into This", I still view it as one of the highlights of Rourke's career.Whether the depiction of a character is exact in the fashion of perfect mimicry is often irrelevant to me in relation to biopics. As a matter of a fact, I often find it the downfall of some biopics, where the physicality may be captured, but the meat and potatoes of the character's are often left by the wayside. Not so in the instance of "Barfly." Rourke nailed Bukowski/Chinaski's crazy, alcoholic, free spiritedness brilliantly, I felt. There was a humor, a tenderness, a coldness, a twisted romanticism, and a bleakness, all wrapped into a greasy, overweight (Rourke pulled a "De Niro", gaining weight and not bathing months before the film's shooting) package you could almost smell from the theater seats.Faye Dunaway as the aging, sad, beautiful barfly Wanda, gives a performance that yet again reminds us why she is a cinematic legend in her own time! She plays the subtleties and intricacies of Wanda with such aplomb, offering even this - the most pathetic of her roles - a dignity and a sad beauty that not many actresses can pull off.The casting of this film deserves a round of applause! I've tended bar and worked in the sorts of joints where these all too real people can be found, and I felt as if I was right there again, pouring shots of bourbon, polishing glasses, and making certain that the brawls boiling in the bar get taken to the streets. Frank Stallone's swaggering, bully-of-a-bar tender, macho-man Eddie is hilarious! Gloria LeRoy as "Grandma Moses" the ancient prostitute infamous for her ability to "swallow paste" is priceless. I could go on and on, but I won't! Bukowski's male character counterpart is a macho, beer swilling, bare knuckle fighting, farting kind of man who some may not appreciate, considering that outside of the seedier bars in North America, these types of fellas are a dying breed. With males being force-fed the over-sensitive, turn the other cheek, annoyingly "metro sexual" kinds of roles models and ideals these days, it must be a strange look back over the evolutionary shoulder for some men to see the realities of people like Bukowski! Don't get me wrong - I'm not applauding all of the Chinaski character's behaviors, but I think that some guys could learn a thing or two about themselves from the worst example of the diametric opposite of what they've been told they should be. Sometimes a fight has to be - sometimes it's just plain pathetic, and both examples can be found in Barfly. ONLY $ 24.99 THEY WONT LAST !! ( Note : This is a VHS and the quality is not the best, but still easy to watch. )

Cocaine Cowboys 1 Documentry DVD $ 19.99  Actors: Jon Roberts (III), Al Sunshine, Sam Burstyn, Mickey Munday, Bob Palumbo.  In the 1980s ruthless colombian cocaine barons invaded miami with a brand of violence unseen since prohibition-era chicago - and it put the city on the map. This is the true story of how miami became the drug murder & cash capital of the united states told by the people who made it happen.
More of a real-life exploitation film than a bonafide documentary, Cocaine Cowboys is tailor-made for anyone who worships Brian De Palma's Scarface. It's no surprise that this slick, energetic film found a niche audience among crime-obsessed hip-hoppers; from a journalistic perspective it's an irresponsible mess, but director Billy Corben is obviously more interested in capturing the thrills and danger of the drug trade that transformed Miami, Florida during the Miami Vice era of the late 1970s and '80s. Corben has no particular interest in seriously examining the sociopolitical implications of Miami's drug-fueled rise and fall, so Cocaine Cowboys lives up to its title by focusing on some of the most colorful, daring, and outrageously successful survivors of that era, when tons of cocaine were distributed through Miami by the kingpins of Colombia's notorious Medellin cartel. Chief among the many interviewees are Jon Roberts and Mickey Munday (who personally transported over $2 billion worth of cocaine into Miami) and Jorge "Rivi" Ayala, a convicted drug-trade assassin now serving consecutive life terms in prison. They're lively storytellers who are egotistically eager to share their coke-tales, and Corben's only too happy to capture their exploits on film, up to and including the dubious use of violent reenactments that could easily serve as a recruitment film for Tony Montana wannabes.
It's simultaneously disgusting and compelling, especially since Corben has a knack for matching swift editing to the pulsing score by TV's original Miami Vice composer Jan Hammer. In the final analysis, it must be said that Cocaine Cowboys succeeds as a brash and breathtaking record of a bygone era, when murder rates were at an all-time high, coke was everywhere, and Miami was financially transformed into a nightlife mecca where criminals were kings. Or queens, as in the case of Griselda Blanco, the ruthless and self-appointed "Godmother" of the cocaine trade, who was responsible for countless murders and as of 2007 remained at large, her whereabouts unknown. All of this deadly life in the fast lane makes for a fascinating movie, but Corben and coproducer David Cypkin's breathless commentary makes it clear that they're young, immature thrill-seekers, and their film makes no apologies for glorifying the drug trade while exploring its bloody and frequently fatal consequences. Their commentary also accompanies an abundance of deleted scenes, and there's also a bonus featurette, "Hustlin' with the Godmother," in which Griselda Blanco's former lover and big-time coke dealer Charles Cosby tells his story, which clearly has all the makings of a Hollywood movie along the lines of Blow. You can bet that film will eventually be made, and don't be surprised if it's Corben who makes it.

Donovan's Reef (1963) DVD $ 9.99 Actors: John Wayne, Lee Marvin, Elizabeth Allen, Jack Warden, Cesar Romero. Language: English, French. John Wayne's last film with mentor and long-time collaborator John Ford (The Searchers) is a 1963 comedy about a group of war veterans settled on a South Pacific island. When the daughter of one of them (Jack Warden) comes for a visit, the freewheeling status quo between the boys is disrupted. This is Ford in his chummy, amiable, roughhousing mode--think of Victor McLaglen's drunken fight scene in Ford's She Wore a Yellow Ribbon--and it is entirely pleasurable. Wayne is comfortable in his man's-man role, and Lee Marvin (who played Wayne's nemesis in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance) is effectively roguish.

DOLLMAKER The VHS $ 24.99 Amanda Plummer, Geraldine Page, Jane Fonda, Levon HelmDirector Daniel Petrie's uplifting drama about the trials and triumphs of a rural Kentucky family during the dark days of World War II stars Jane Fonda as Gertie NeveIs, a self-reliant and resourceful mother of five. Gertie and her family live a simple life on a sharecropping farm in the hills of Kentucky. Despite the hardships of farming, the Nevels family is happy, surrounded by loving longtime friends. However, Gertie's dreams of owning a farm are shattered when her husband, Clovis (Levon Helm, drummer for the Band), heads to Detroit to take a job in a factory. Gertie dutifully packs up the family to join Clovis, leaving behind the only home they have ever known for an urban tenement. Gertie and her children have a horrible time adjusting to the new way of life in the big city, residing near poor, unhappy workers struggling to survive. Faced with a series of devastating setbacks and family tragedies, Gertie is forced to reach inside herself for the courage and strength it will take to keep her family together. Her one source of inspiration and happiness continues to be her lifelong craft of carving dolls and toys for her children. When Clovis, a union man, comes into conflict with his employers, Gertie takes on the struggle with an iron will and relies on her own craft and artistic passion to support her family, selling her hand-carved dolls to realize her dreams of a future back in Kentucky. Fonda gives a truly dazzling Emmy-winning performance in this tribute to one woman's unbreakable spirit. Petrie's film, written by actor Hume Cronyn and Susan Cooper, is based on the best-selling novel by Harriet Arnow.

Enemy at the Gates (2001) DVD $ 4.99 Actors: Matthais Habich, Ed Harris, Bob Hoskins, Eva Mattes, Ron Perlman. In the midst of the siege of Stalingrad, two snipers-an innocent Red Army peasant from the Urals (Jude Law) and an aristocratic Nazi deer hunter (Ed Harris)-stalk each other in the mucky ruins. This elaborate duel might have been perversely interesting as a kind of military sick joke if the absurdity of it were the point. But the director Jean-Jacques Annaud and his longtime collaborator, the producer-writer Alain Godard, make it seem like the entire battle hinged on the struggle between the two specialists. Although the movie starts well, with horrifying epic scenes of the Red Army sacrificing thousands of men to stop the Germans, it rapidly loses all common sense and excitement. With Joseph Fiennes as a hack Party intellectual who makes the Soviet sharpshooter a national hero and Rachel Weisz as a brave Red Army girl who seems to have walked off a recruiting poster. The composer James Horner does an acceptable imitation of Shostakovich's agonized wartime manner.

Gorillas: From the Heart of Darkness DVD $ 14.99  Romain Baertsoen a Belgian diplomat, arrived in Rwanda in 1966 and started to film one of the country's most closely guarded secrets - the gorillas of the Viruga Mountains. Baertsoen had to learn how to behave with these enormous animals, as Diane Fossey had barely started her groundbreaking field work. Baertosen learned through trial and error; being charged by a 400-pound Silverback was not something he wanted to repeat. Thanks to Baertsoen's films, we are able to witness young gorillas playing, resting, and feeding. In one extraordinary incident, we actually see gorillas trying to help a dog that is caught in a trap by using sign language. Baertsoen also filmed spectacular footage of one of the Congo's erupting volcanoes. The cooled lava provides a fertile land, and a thrilling view full of fantastic flora and fauna.

My Dinner with Andre (1981) - Louis Malle - Super Rare !! DVD $ 24.99  Directed by Louis Malle. Writing credits Andre Gregory Wallace Shawn. Wallace Shawn ... Wally Shawn. Andre Gregory ... Andre Gregory. Jean Lenauer ... Waiter. Roy Butler ... Bartender. Runtime: 110 min. Country: USA. Language: English. The idea is astonishing in its audacity: a film of two friends talking, just simply talking—but with passion, with scandal, whimsy, vision, hope, and despair—for 110 minutes. It sounds at first like one of those underground films of the 1960s, in which great length and minimal content somehow interacted in the dope-addled brains of the audience to provide the impression of deep if somehow elusive profundity. "My Dinner with Andre" is not like that. It doesn't use all of those words as a stunt. They are alive on the screen, breathing, pulsing, reminding us of endless, impassioned conversations we've had with those few friends worth talking with for hours and hours. Underneath all the other fascinating things in this film beats the tide of friendship, of two people with a genuine interest in one another.
Note: Doing chapter switch on that DVD, there is a short delay or about 0.05 second.

Night of the Living Dead (1968 )  DVD $ 7.99 Director:George A. Romero,96 min, English,Black and White,Duane Jones, Judith O'Dea, Karl Hardman, Marilyn Eastman, Judith Ridley,Kyra Schon,Charles Craig and many more.  We can hardly imagine how shocking this film was when it first broke into the film scene in 1968. There's never been anything quite like it again, though there have been numerous pale imitations. George Romero's classic 1968 zombie-fest (shot in black and white) offers some disturbing images, even decades later. In a Pittsburgh suburb people are being stalked by zombies ravenous for human flesh. In a house whose occupant has already been slain, two separate groups of people unite and board themselves in, hoping to fend off the advancing ghouls. Through radio and TV reports they learn that radiation from outer space is thought to be responsible for the wave of zombie attacks all over the eastern United States. Once the humans are trapped, Romero shifts the focus to the internal feuding between them as they decide how to handle their dreadful situation. What unfolds is an examination of human nature, and of the fear and selfishness that keep many citizens from getting involved in the world's problems. Appropriately, both the zombies and the authorities who later hunt them are equally soulless. This film could also be read as a criticism of white males--it is not merely a coincidence that the film's two most rational, constructive characters are a woman and a black man. It is also no coincidence that the sequel takes place in a mall infested by the undead--a perfect analogy for consumer culture.

The Great Waltz (1938) VHS ONLY $ 14.99 Actors: Luise Rainer, Fernand Gravey, Miliza Korjus, Hugh Herbert, Lionel Atwill.Format: Black & White, NTSC.Run Time: 102 minutes.Take the story of a man torn between two women, add the music of Johann Strauss and the scenery of 1840's Vienna and you have The Great Waltz, an irresistible cream puff of a movie. Miliza Korjus-rhymes with gorgeous and she is-portrays the fictional opera singer Carla Doner in a delicious performance that verges on May West camp, murmuring most of her lines through a perpetual full-toothed grin and waltzing herself giddy while singing absolutely impossible sounding obliggatoes to Strauss's walzes-never loosing a beat and never out of breath! Luise Rainer's innate sweetness and vulnerability are perfect for Poldi, Strauss's devoted wife. Watch her silent reaction when she realizes that the song she thought he wrote for her was actually intended for Madame Doner-incredible acting. On the other hand, Fernand Gravet, as Strauss, is unexceptional and a bit bland. Among the excellent supporting cast, Hugh Herbert as the befuddled music publisher and Curt Bois as the comic, but wise violinist are outstanding. The movie does require a temporary suspension of belief. It is full of improbabilities, including the all-female orchestra that performs Tales of the Vienna Woods in a biergarten--wearing evening gowns, Madam Doner's apparent ability to glance at a piece of music once and perform it word and note perfect (the citizens of Vienna take this one step further by singing along even though the waltzes in question have yet to be published!), and the most peculiar version of Die Fledermaus ever performed. If you are looking for historical accuracy or musical purity, this is not your movie, but if you want a delightful Hollywood operetta, you can't do much better than The Great Waltz.

The Mexican (2000) DVD $ 9.99 Actors: Michael Cerveris, Richard Coca, James Gandolfini, Castulo Guerra, Gene Hackman. Part road movie, part romantic comedy, part thriller, and a whole lotta fun, The Mexican could get by on star power alone, but it offers Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and a clever plot full of delightful surprises. It's a thoroughly enjoyable shaggy-dog story in which the downtrodden Jerry Welbach (Pitt) copes with a dual dilemma: his girlfriend Samantha (Roberts) has just dumped him to pursue solo ambitions in Las Vegas, and a manipulative mobster has ordered Jerry to Mexico to retrieve a coveted antique pistol (the "Mexican" of the title) that carries a legacy of legend, death, and danger. Jerry soon has his hands full with bandits, bloodshed, and a grizzly hound dog that vanishes and reappears with amusing regularity. En route to Vegas, Samantha's taken hostage by a burly assassin (James Gandolfini) who's attached to the gun-fetching scheme and is, in more ways than one, not who he seems to be.

Tiger Bay (1959) DVD $ 39.99 Actors: John Mills, Horst Buchholz, Hayley Mills, Yvonne Mitchell, Megs Jenkins. Language: English. In her first major acting role, Hayley Mills plays a lonely 10-year-old who witnesses a murder and is abducted by the sailor-killer. In a dramatic and deeply moving climax, the young, tortured seaman must make the most important decision of his life. When a sailor discovers his girlfriend has dumped him while he's been away, they argue, she pulls a gun, he gets it away from her, and then shoots her several times. A streetwise British girl from Cardiff, who does nothing but lie and cause trouble, is the only witness. She eventually befriends the Polish sailor and helps him hide. What could've been a cloying story--even perverse--is handled with impeccable taste and turned into a very moving, human tale. The cinematographer is obviously in love with Hayley Mills' 12-year-old face(her round, inquisitive eyes in particular)and shows her off to an incredible advantage(she is indeed an amazing youngster). Real-life papa John Mills(as the investigator of the murder)and Horst Bucholz are also fine. An intriguing, absorbing film.

Woman in the Dunes (1964), DVD $ 29.99 In the 1960s, any self-respecting student of culture had to be familiar with a film like Woman in the Dunes, which most critics reckoned one of the cinema's supreme achievements. The cruelty and clarity of life in a sand pit in Japan, circa 1964. Based on Kobo Abe's novel, and adapted by the author for director Hiroshi Teshigahara, the story opens with amateur entomologist Jumpei Niki (hunky Eiji Tokada from Hiroshima, Mon Amour) puttering around some sand dunes looking for bugs. He's on what he thinks is a brief field trip, but the viewer's aware long before he is that there's something not quite right about this environment. The director's signals are unmistakable — weirdly wailing music, sudden sandstorms, and perhaps most disturbing, a motif that recurs throughout the film: overpowering close-ups, of everything from bugs to birds to zenlike sand patterns to the grit-encrusted hairs on Jumpei's strong arms.
Sure enough, he misses the last bus out of "town," and some "kindly" villagers offer to put him up for the night. The only problem is that there are no hotels in this vast waste of sand, only strange ramshackle huts at the bottom of a series of deep sand pits. He naively enters one of these pits by rope ladder, and awakes the next morning to find the ladder’s been removed. Jumpei is now a permanent guest of an unnamed woman who spends all her time shoveling sand off her house to stave off her own burial. The villagers, in a fit of what she uncomprehendingly calls "community spirit," give her weekly rations and water, lowered by rope.
The relationship between the two starts off predictably enough, with Jumpei assuming he'll be able to leave soon and even willing to fill the role she offers him: "Helper." Just as the woman is nameless in the film, Jumpei too loses his identity, becoming "Helper" and, most ironically, "Guest." As it dawns on him that he's not only a prisoner but one who must shovel sand constantly simply to survive, he becomes increasingly frantic. The woman brings him literally back to earth with a dire warning that he can't stop shoveling: "Last year a storm swallowed up my husband and child. The sand came down like a waterfall.

This movie has it all … from lawnmowers to carrots you don't want to miss Wacko. If you do you are an idiot! Andrew Dice Clay gives a balanced, poignant performance as Tony.  Jon Don Baker as Dick Harbinger could go down as the greatest hero since Jesus. While some movies are afraid to push the envelope of brilliance (I'm looking at you Godfather!!!) Wacko takes the horror genre to places not scene in Hollywood. Proudly unsophisticated comedy has the dual charm of complete conviction in its silly gags, and not pretending it's anything other than what it is. Very easy watch, with more than enough laughs to get you through Quite possibly the best horror spoof ever made!

The Winds of War (1983) War & Remembrance Part 1 and Part 2 Total of 18 DVD's $ 149.99 Actors: Robert Mitchum, Ali MacGraw, Jan-Michael Vincent, John Houseman, Polly Bergen. Set against the backdrop of world events that led to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, "The Winds of War" stars Robert Mitchum as Victor "Pug" Henry, a career naval officer who along with his family, learns to navigate the waters of his dangerous times in the late 1930s. While Germany expands and proceeds to seize several border countries, Italy attempts to establish a Fascist Colonial Empire under Mussolini and Japan prepares for a major battle with China. Meanwhile, the Henry clan finds itself drawn into the center of the conflict as they deal with the drama, romance, tragedy and heroism that lead to America's involvement in World War II.

War and Remembrance Volume 1 - Parts 1-7 (1988)
Actors: Robert Mitchum, Jane Seymour, Hart Bochner, Victoria Tennant, Polly Bergen.
The ambitious TV event War and Remembrance was the final opus in the golden age of the maxi-miniseries. This six-disc set offers the first half (seven episodes) of ABC's mammoth 30-hour production of Herman Wouk's bestseller--itself a sequel to the landmark Winds of War--mixing fictional and real characters around the events of World War II. It starts a week after the attack on Pearl Harbor and abruptly stops in July 1943 with the fall of Mussolini. Only half of the first series' lead actors return, including Robert Mitchum as the patriarch Captain "Pug" Henry. Although Mitchum is too old and less dashing than he should be, his presence is exactly what the series needs as it wavers between pop entertainment and a graphic look at the atrocities of war. The series' multiple storylines branch from the Henry family tree, from his sons' naval battles to his daughter-in-law's (Jane Seymour) harrowing flight through Europe with her famous father (John Gielgud), witnessing firsthand the collapse of European Jewish life in the grip of Nazi power.

War & Remembrance  Vol. 2 The Final Chapter: Parts 8 - 12 (1988)
Actors: Robert Mitchum, Jane Seymour, Hart Bochner, Victoria Tennant, Polly Bergen.
The second half of this massive miniseries covers events from the last two years of World War II with members of our fictitious family--the Henrys--scattered throughout the world. Pariah "Pug" Henry (Robert Mitchum) visits Russia and England as an advisor--and proposes to his much-younger lover, Pamela (Victoria Tennant)--before retuning to the Pacific theater to join his son Byron (Hart Bochner), a submariner, in battling the Japanese. Meanwhile, Byron's wife, Natalie (Jane Seymour), and her uncle (John Gielgud) continue their harrowing plight, starting in the "Paradise Ghetto" and leading to the Auschwitz concentration camp.

WISEGUY COMPLETE SERIES $ 199.99  W/Bonus Features And Rare Extra's All Episodes Are Here Including The Last 3 Unaired Shows !!! On 33 DVD's Starring:  Ken Wahl & Jonathan Banks. Vinnie Terranova does time in a New Jersey penitentiary to set up his undercover role as an agent for the OCB (Organized Crime Bureau) of the United States. His roots in a traditional Italian city neighborhood form the underlying dramatic base throughout the series, bringing him into conflict with his conservative mother and other family members while acting undercover as syndicate enforcer. The segments, which ran several shows each, included in-depth and empathetic characterizations of the players on both sides of the law. Scenarios include the underbelly of the recording industry (Deborah Harrie guest-stars), protection rackets, international arms dealing (Kevin Spacey is the billionaire kingpin), foiling white supremacist plotters, uncovering a government conspiracy to set up a compliant new head of state in a third-world country, and Vinnie's final reconciliation with his Italian mother and her new husband, the purely legendary Mafia figure Don Aiupo.
How does a deep-cover operative keep his sanity and morality intact when the criminal lifestyle he’s sworn to bring down from within is more compelling than his own? Federal Agent Vincent Terranova (Ken Wahl) is plagued by the question in this innovative take on 80’s cop dramas. Created by veteran hit producer Steven J Cannell, Wiseguy veers from traditional ‘bad guy of the week’ police procedural by breaking the drama into multi-episode story arcs that followed an Organized Crimes Bureau case—and its charismatic criminal suspects—to its logical conclusion. No matter the cost to criminal, victim, or cop.
In the end, Vinnie may have got his man, but the emotional toll of the lies and deceptions he used to get close enough to his prey couldn’t be ignored. But he’s ably backed by his Field Supervisor Frank McPike (Jonathan Banks) and his OCB Lifeguard (Jim Byrnes) on the law-and-order side and his brother Father Pete Terranova (Gerald Anthony) on the spiritual side.
Plus many up-and-coming stars (Ray Sharkey, Annette Benning, Billy Vera, Kevin Spacey, Fred Dalton Thompson, Ron Silver, Michael Chiklis) cut their teeth on juicy roles as either flashy but flawed criminals or tragic victims of the same.
Personal problems and injuries caused Wahl to back out of a fourth season and be replaced by Steven Bauer, thereby giving the show a new slant and hastening its cancellation. Still, Wiseguy is referenced by many critics and fans as one of the most literate, stylish, audacious, and fun cop shows of the late 80’s.
